You really want to know more, eh?

What's to say, really? While this website is intended to act as an online portfolio for some of my work, it's also a little space tucked away in the cloud where I can play around in my virtual sandbox. That being said... I'm 29 years old and have been working as both a freelancer and a full-time corporate employee for the past 10 years. I started my own self-employed business 4-ish years ago, and have been working with local and national clients since.

While I have successfully worked with big companies like Big Brother, I mostly enjoy working with small to medium-sized companies. This allows me to have a more personal connection with the client to better understand their needs, requirements, and expectations... And it also avoids all the typical design by committee outcomes (yuk!).

Life as a designer & developer

I got lucky. I was blessed with an artistic eye and the aptitude for programming logic. I'm as excited about that single pixel that makes the layout perfect as I am about classes and sub-routines. Really, I think this gives me a HUGE advantage when it comes to embarking on a new project. Since I'm fluent in both developernese and designerishk, I bridge the gap when it comes to the typical conflicts that software engineers have with designers.

My current research interests

While my curiousity for learning is never satisfied, I'm currently interested in researching and building rich internet applications (I'm particularly enamored with Adobe Flex), ubiquitous computing, and designing for the "cloud".

In my spare time...

... I like to play or watch just about every sport imaginable; I'm an avid video-gamer; I like to commune with nature on camping adventures; I like to drive motorcycles - sometimes fast (of the Italian variety); or I just hang out at home with my wife and three kids.

I don't like to spend my time grocery shopping (or shopping for anything, unless it's Italian motorcycles), watching girlish shows (as my 4 year-old would say), or waiting for other people to be on time (just be there when you say you'll be there, dangit).

Thanks for stopping by!

Some things I'm good at:

  • Design and layout, with files delivered in layered psd or png format.
  • User interface design for online applications and back-end systems.
  • Pure XHTML & CSS coding, no IDE required.
  • Websites powered by a customized Content Management System.
  • Small to medium sized eCommerce websites.
  • Rich internet applications, specializing in AJAX or Adobe Flex.
  • Custom server-side scripting, including the .NET or PHP varieties.
  • Design and normalize databases, for both personal and enterprise use.

What I can't do:

  • Something like amazon.com or facebook on a $200 budget, so don't ask.
  • Juggle more than three balls at the same time. Okay, I can't juggle at all.
